The workshop presented by the Scotts company provided a lot of good information. However, we should remind ourselves that the MG volunteers are not a sales force for any company. Nor should we advocate the use of chemicals; especially not a particular brand of chemicals.

Scotts Master Gardener Training -

The purpose of the training was to offer this unique opportunity to those Master Gardeners who wanted to educate themselves more about chemicals/products that we find in most garden related stores available for customer use. Being a Master Gardener, our mission is to assist those who ask about garden problems which may include use of chemicals and also find or suggest alternative ways for resolving a problem within their landscape. If you go into a chemical aisle at any store, you'll find that the Scotts Company products hold majority status there and the Homeowner doesn't always know how to, or to use common sense when looking at and using a product. This training I think will definitely help us assist those who have little knowledge about these products and to use them for the right reasons safely.

This training as most may remember also covered IPM (Integrated Pest Management). This means to scout out ahead of time, any signs of beginning problems in your landscape and try and resolve them through beneficial insects, plantings, etc., before you move on to any chemical use.

Also, this training is orinally taught to those who work within the Scotts family, thus there was some discussion about sales for the benefit of their Consultants and Merchandisers who were also attending that day to learn as the Master Gardeners were.

I, myself enjoyed learning more about the various products we see and hear about everyday and hoped that most who attended brought home something of value whether they use chemicals or not.

Yeah, and the lunch they served wasn't too shabby either!
